Generative Writing Workshops II

Wellington Writers’ Studio’s own Melody Nixon is offering WWS members a generative all-genre writing workshop on Tuesdays and Thursdays in October and November.

In-person sessions will run on Tuesdays from 5 – 7pm on October 22nd – November 26th, for six weeks. 

Online sessions will run on from 12 – 1:30pm Thursdays October 24th – November 28th, for six weeks.

These sessions will be centred around two themes: unblocking creativity and playing with the rules of craft. These themes will guide prompts and discussions each week, and the workshops will also have short thematic readings. The majority of time will be spent writing together, with optional sharing.

The workshops are as follows: 

  • Session 1: Unblocking creativity:  Te Taha Wairua / spirit* 
  • Session 2: Unblocking creativity: Te Taha Hinengaro / mind* 
  • Session 3: Playing with the rules: Voice
  • Session 4: Playing with the rules: Conflict
  • Session 5: Playing with the rules: Structure
  • Session 6: The Writer’s Life: Making it Work

* The first two weeks draw from Sir Mason Durie’s Te Whare Tapa Wha model for hauora (health).A previous course investigated Te Taha tinana / the body, and Te whānau / the community. You do not have to attended the previous course to take part in this one.

You’re welcome to sign up for the full course (at a discount) or drop in for a single session.  

Price:

Drop in – $25/session 

Sign up for the full block – $125 for six weeks.  

Melody is offering two scholarships to those who are un- or underemployed so if finances are an issue for you, please do reach out to her.
